The Latest on Birding at Bonamanzi

Birding at Bonamanzi is also unique in offering visitors the opportunity to attend bird trapping and ringing sessions, when many of our stunning bird species can be seen and photographed in the hand. This gives an excellent opportunity to see species that are normally very difficult to see well in the field, and also to learn a great deal about the birds themselves. All habitats are covered, and all species from the smallest passerines to the largest waterbirds and raptors, including nocturnal birds. The sessions are led by Dr Barry Taylor, who has over 30 years’ experience of birding over most of Africa, and who is the acknowledged world expert on the family Rallidae (rails, crakes, gallinules and coots), particularly the flufftails. For enthusiasts wishing to find these very difficult species, special outings can also be arranged.
